Apprise Review - RSS Feed Reader For Adobe AIR
Application Software Download Free Windows
Designed by one of Adobe’s own AIR developers, Apprise is a simple RSS feed reader that works as a nice demonstration of the platform. AIR applications usually feature sleek and attractive Web 2.0 designs, and Apprise is no exception. However, despite its nice design, the program doesn’t include a preferences dialog which probably ends up limiting the functionality of this small application more than anything else.
The first thing most users will want to do with their new RSS feed reader is start subscribing to some feeds. To do this, you click the “Add Feed” button. Apprise will then add the subscribed feeds to the main pane of the program. However, there have been some minor problems with this function, including some feeds that didn’t show up in the main window.
Aside from the minor issues, the program is generally functional. Apprise has a few nice features including the ability to filter feeds by category and even by the name of the author. Additionally, it supports OPML files so you can easily import your favorite RSS feeds.
The verb apprise means to make someone aware of something. It is used in a variety of ways, from telling someone the news of a family member’s death to letting them know that you’re going to dinner with a coworker. The words apprise and acquaint are often confused, but they have very different meanings. Acquaint focuses on familiarizing with or introducing someone to something, while apprise is more about informing them of something that has important ramifications for them.
